Teenage Pregnancy

Teenage pregnancy is defined as a teenaged or underaged girl (usually within the ages of 13–19) becoming pregnant. The term in everyday speech usually refers to women who have not reached legal adulthood, which varies across the world, who become pregnant.

Most teenagers don't plan to get pregnant, but many do. Teen pregnancies carry extra health risks to the mother and the baby. Often, teenagers don't receive timely prenatal care, and they have a higher risk for pregnancy-related high blood pressure and its complications. Risks for the baby include premature birth and a low birthweight.

Causes of teenage pregnancies:

Adolescent sexual behavior
Contraception
Age discrepancy in relationships
Sexual abuse
Dating violence
Childhood environment

How can the risk of teenage pregnancies be reduced? What are your views on this issue?

  1. Heyi sis'wam this question is very diffuclt to answer because nowadayz the rate at which teenagers are getting invovled, is scary! The problem is that the influence of the media on sexual content is the part of the problem children are getting exposed too! Charity begins at home, so the parents should be playing a role in stoping this from happening.

  2. I'ts true that Charity begins at home. The most important thing parents can do to prevent teen pregnancy is to be involved in their teen's lives. Spend time with your teen every day. Talk to your teen and not only tell them that you are there for them, but show it in your actions. Get interested in what your teen is interested in and if they have no interests, help them find some.

  3. this is all so true, parents should start opening up about this matter to their children at their early teens, because the get exposed to a lot of these things at school, through magazines and so on but I believe parents paying attention to their childrens' lives and opening up to their children is the firt step.
